Plan & Book

When you’ve been in one place for over 500 years, you tend to collect a few things. The museums and historic sites of Newfoundland and Labrador will allow you to experience our history, and the history of the peoples here thousands of years before us.

Throughout the province, you can find museums tucked away in even the smallest community. We’re proud of our history and happy to share. From community and industrial museums to interpretation centres, they tend to be as diverse and unique as the stories and memories contained within their walls.

The Rooms, in St. John's, is Newfoundland and Labrador's largest public cultural space and home to our most extensive collection of artifacts, art, and archival records. Curators bring the province’s rich stories to life in engaging multi-sensory experiences. Claiming a regal perch upon the city skyline, The Rooms’ contemporary design evokes traditional outport fishing rooms, and celebrates our colourful history and creative spirit. It is an unmistakable building, with breathtaking harbour and city views, as well as a hugely popular restaurant.

A red house sits on a grassy hill with a white picket fence lining a gravel path. In the background, there are rocky cliffs, a smaller building, and a body of water under a cloudy sky.

Historic Sites

Many locations and buildings in the province have been designated Historic Sites – both provincial and national – to showcase milestones in the story of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada. Many offer reenactments of important events, and allow you to see the world as it was then. Every historic site is a fascinating chapter of our history, just waiting to be explored.
