There’s no shortage of reasons to celebrate, perhaps just a shortage of time.

Have you ever celebrated a blueberry? An accordion? A muddy hole? Around here, we think there are a lot of things worth celebrating. Maybe it’s because we'll find any excuse to have a party, but you can find festivals and events in honour of music, food, fish, film, theatre, and crafts. Not to mention workshops, seminars, walking tours, and open performances that will educate and entertain.
Sometimes you don’t want to celebrate just one thing. The Trails Tales Tunes Festival in Gros Morne National Park offers a fabulous mix of outdoor entertainment and activities. If you’re looking for world-class cuisine to go with your entertainment, Elliston’s Roots, Rants and Roars, and the Songs, Stages and Seafood Festival combine celebrity chefs with music and storytelling.
Live theatre in Newfoundland and Labrador is a big deal, with annual festivals in Gros Morne and Trinity Bight. If you like a bit of Shakespeare, the Shakespeare by the Sea productions in St. John’s and Perchance Theatre’s season in Cupids will be right up your alley.
Folk music festivals take a traditional kitchen party to a bigger stage. The Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival, which has been running since 1976, takes place at Bannerman Park in St. John’s. With almost as long a history, the family-oriented Fish, Fun and Folk Festival is held in the charming seaside town of Twillingate.
The Miawpukek Annual Powwow in Conne River is held here every July that will introduce you to Newfoundland Mi'kmaq traditions, including plenty of dancing, spiritual walks, and special ceremonies.
In Labrador, the Bakeapple Folk Festival is a celebration of local heritage and the bountiful harvest of the bakeapple, complete with singing, dancing, and food.
The height of summer is a grand time in the capital city. While you are in town, check out the historic Royal St. John’s Regatta, a family-friendly Buskers Festival, the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival, or the lively George Street Festival.
