In the wake of 9/11, 38 planes with 7,000 passengers were redirected to Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador. Out of the kindness of their hearts, the residents of Gander and surrounding communities opened their homes to host this group of stranded strangers.
Since its stage debut in 2015, the Tony–award winning musical Come From Away has invited audiences around the world to experience this remarkable story. In July 2023, a new production of the show came home to Gander, the place where it all began. With book, music, and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, and produced by originating producer Michael Rubinoff, this fully staged production will be directed by Newfoundland and Labrador’s own Jillian Keiley.

Come From Away returns to Gander for a third season this year, following another sold-out run last summer. Directed by Jillian Keiley and produced by Michael Rubinoff, Newfoundland and Labrador’s 2025 production of the award-winning musical will run at the Joseph R. Smallwood Arts and Culture Centre from June 29 to August 31, with performances Thursdays through Sundays. Alongside returning Broadway cast members Petrina Bromley and Astrid Van Wieren, this year’s cast and crew welcomes Kelly-Ann Evans. Also new to this year’s cast are Dharma Bizier, Starr Domingue, and Izad Etemadi, while several Newfoundland and Labrador talents return alongside familiar faces from away.
