Long Beach has a long history–on November 1, 1755, the city of Lisbon, Portugal was struck by the most destructive earthquake in European history. This quake generated a tsunami so large it travelled across the Atlantic and was observed here on Long Beach, over 3500 km from the quake’s epicentre.
