Here’s your chance! Take control of a “shalloway” - a type of fishing vessel used by the French and then the English, and an important part of the commercial fishery here for half a millennium. You’ll learn to “scull” on the tranquill Ship Cove Pond - a technique that involves moving a single oar mounted at the stern of the boat from side to side to propel the shalloway forward, under the guidance of a master boat builder, mariner, Port de Grave resident, and overall colorful character, Vern.
