Experience Fogo

Fogo, Fogo Island

The community of Fogo was settled by European fisherman in the 1720s, although descriptions of the fishery have been recorded as early as 1697. Over the next 300 years, the fishing industry continued to be a thriving aspect of the community. Here, visitors can relive the everyday life of Fogo settlers from a century ago; the stories of how these early settlers lived and worked is told through exhibits on site. Be sure to view the carpenter's shop, stable, traditional garden, stage and flakes.
