Ancient Carboniferous Fossil Trees

Stephenville

May 1 - Oct 30

This fossil bed, a protected site, is located in Blanche Brook in the heart of Stephenville and is believed to represent the first seed producing trees that grew on slopes; a major event regarding the evolution of trees in the world. Most times, the brook is dry enough to wade in for a closer look. Please take only photos as souvenirs. Additional geological and fossil sites for the region are identified in a booklet called: Bay St. George ROCKS. Inquire at the Town Hall.
