SS Kyle

Launched in 1913, the SS Kyle was the fastest ship in Reid Newfoundland Company’s Alphabet Fleet. As the first regularly scheduled ferry between Newfoundland and coastal Labrador, the Kyle is often fondly remembered in twentieth-century stories of the latter. The historic transport and sealing vessel ran aground in Riverhead, Harbour Grace, on February 4, 1967. She stands proudly today as a living monument to a way of life long forgotten by many Newfoundlanders.
