Clovelly Introduces FootGolf
The game of “golf” is about to change in Newfoundland and Labrador as Clovelly introduces the first FootGolf course east of New Brunswick! Curious? Read on and discover exactly how to navigate a golf course… with a soccer ball.
One of Atlantic Canada’s premier golfing facilities and social clubs, Clovelly is known for its two exceptional 18-hole courses, The Osprey and Black Duck. Nestled in the east end of St. John’s, they boast lush natural surroundings and rolling greens. When I arrived, the sun was shining and the course was dotted with golfers eager to start the season. However, I wasn’t ready to hit the fairway just yet – first things first, it was time to eat.
Nineteen at Clovelly prides themselves on being “the best kept secret in the east end of St. John’s”, and I could see why. With it’s stunning views and incredible food, it’s a gem that rivals any local restaurant in the city. I glanced at the menu and my eye was immediately drawn to the XIX Burger - bacon, cheddar, and guacamole… it was just begging to be ordered. The beef was cooked to perfection, the veggies crisp, and the guacamole added an extra punch of flavour. Golfing not your thing? I would recommend visiting Clovelly simply for the food. There’s live music every Friday evening and a brand new breakfast buffet on Saturdays and Sundays for only $16!
My burger finished and my belly full, it was finally time to head out and try my hand (or is it foot?) at Clovelly’s newest offering. FootGolf is exactly how it sounds – a combination of golf and soccer. Played with a regulation number five soccer ball, participants play on the Black Duck course with 21-inch diameter cups. The object of the game remains the same, with as little strokes (kicks) as possible, put the ball in the hole.
As we proceeded through the holes, I realized I had the biggest grin on my face. FootGolf is ridiculously fun! It has a much more relaxed vibe than a traditional golf game, making it a great choice for corporate events or team building. No experience is required and the game is perfect for participants of any age.
Travelling with delegates? Looking for an inclusive corporate event? Put down the clubs and get ready to play FootGolf! The course is open, and tee times can be booked by visiting Clovellyhere.
