Unique Architecture of Newfoundland and Labrador
Newfoundland and Labrador

In other places, it’s called clapboard. Around here, we call it canvas.

It goes without saying: the bigger the medium, the better. And if you’ve ever met the people here, you’d know why. This is a place where hearts come fastened to sleeves and creativity has a way of spilling out onto the streets and over the hills and into the harbour. A bold and vibrant place where, you’ll come to realize, how very faint the line between colours and flavours can be. And why jelly beans are used to describe houses as colourful as the people who live in them.

It tends to surround you, this seemingly never-ending flow of inspiration and ingenuity, in every possible sense and direction. Leading you to believe that if ever there was a place to be exactly who you are, this is it.

With visions of lime green, turquoise, and crimson popping up around every corner, it’s easy to forget that this place is as real as the sea that surrounds it. Until, of course, you’re lucky enough to meet the folks who call this place home: friendly, genuine people who’ll invite you in for a while, under asymmetrical rooftops, and tell you all about it.

Good news, the most recent proposal to make it 'modern' had been withdrawn. So see it. It's a bit like old Quebec with a bit less preservation but a lot more life and a lot less tourist-museum vibe.

Better see it soon. St. John's City Council seems set on turning downtown St. John's into downtown Calgary east, glass office towers and parking garages. But it is nice now.

I sure looks lovely and peaceful there, I lookforward to affording the trip and booking some time there. As soon as I can put together the money.
